7 Days at Lake Durant

My adventures in  car camping days began a few years ago . While paddling on a local lake, I encountered a  friend paddling with other people from the Albany area. I was all ears when they told stories about their camping excursions, and consequently they invited me to join them. I did a couple of nights with them that summer with borrowed equipment. Now with my own equipment I camp with them four or five times a summer at various New York state campsites.  In October of each year they get together to decide campgrounds they want to book; I just go with the flow!

Swimming Holes

Summer is upon us, and do you know the best way to cool down? Head to a lake! Throw a blanket, some towels, and a snack in the car and go to the beach to take a swim. There are plenty of local swimming holes you can  walk to, but I think we have some of the most beautiful beaches in the Adirondacks, with the most breathtaking views and cool attractions.

Take a look at some of our public beaches and the unique amenities that come along with them.

Favorite Experience

We all have our favorite experiences and adventures.

I certainly have quite a few of my own including hiking, going to the beach, and stopping by Donuts and More for hot donuts and the best breakfast sandwich around.

But I wanted to know what draws others to the mountains, so I reached out and asked, "What's your favorite Adirondack experience?"

Adirondack Fourth of July

One of my favorite times of the year is coming up — and it's coming up fast!

I don't know about you, but when I think about summer, I think about camping, s'mores, fireworks, and parades.

Well, here in the Adirondacks we have plenty of all of the above to go around! The Fourth of July falls on a Tuesday this year, so I feel like we get to spread the holiday right out!

Adirondack Experience The Museum On Blue Mountain Lake

As many of you know, our beloved museum in Blue Mountain Lake has undergone a lot of changes in the last few months.  They have changed from The Adirondack Museum to  Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake.  While the old name was pretty straightforward, the new name really gives you an idea of what they are hoping you will take away from your visit — the Adirondacks aren't just a place, but an experience.

Tips & tricks: Camp like a pro

For as long as I can remember, I have spent a portion of my summers camping.  As a family, we would always go once right when school got out in June, and again before heading back to school in early September. The love of pitching a tent is part of who I am!

Over the years, I have learned so many different tips and tricks from my parents and other campers that make camping trips so much easier. From what to pack to meal planning, there are tricks up my sleeve for all of it.

With sales from Speculator to Inlet to Indian Lake to Long Lake (and everywhere in-between), there are over 200 miles of sales. And if this isn't reason enough to visit the Adirondacks over Memorial Day weekend, here are a few more things you can do along the way.

Playground Hopping

Have you been as stir crazy this year as I have been? It seemed like the cold weather just didn't want to let go. Well, now that the  snow is gone (and hopefully we won't see any more) all I can think about is how nice it will be to get out of the house! I love going for walks or bike rides with my kids, or even taking a nice leisurely drive.

Down on one knee in the 'dacks

What is romance?

When some people think of romance, they immediately imagine the classics: candlelit dinner, fancy restaurant, picnic in the park... For romantic gifts, they revert back to the standard chocolate, roses, and for that really special someone: jewelry.

Now, there really isn't anything wrong with the classics -- after all they're classics for a reason. But, once you've found that special someone and you're ready to pull out all of the stops for the memorable "wow" moment,  how do you find that unexpected spot to "pop the question?" Where do you begin?

Got Cabin Fever?

Spring fever... cabin fever... Call it what you will — I'm feeling it!

We've had a fantastic winter season, but lately we've had a lot of warm temperatures and rain, usually followed by plummeting temperatures and snow. It's making me stir crazy!

I'm ready for flip flops and tank tops, hikes and beach days. But in the mean time, I'll make the best of what I have.
