Brave the Black Fly, scenic roads, and dirt riding

The famous Black Fly Challenge, held annually between Inlet and Indian Lake, takes hundreds riders on a 40-mile trip though the Moose River Plains, and is one of the highlights of the summer riding season. This area is also home to a series of well-signed dirt loops that take riders along closed pavement sections and dirt roads. For a different off-road experience, check out Fern Park, a popular recreation area in Inlet. For a blend of on and off-roading, try your wheels on unique gravel trails around the region. Experience lakeside trails, historic Great Camp routes, and variations of multiple trails, offering a stunning ride for the experts and beginners alike.

Don't miss Oak Mountain Bike Park in Speculator! Suitable for beginner to advanced riders, and fun for the whole family, the trails incorporate a combination of flow, natural and manmade features, as well as technical roots and rocks as they run down the mountain through mixed hardwood forests and ski trails. 

Road bike enthusiasts will find no shortage of quiet roads throughout Hamilton County. Any of the state roads make for excellent riding with quiet traffic and smooth pavement. The scenery as riders parallel Indian Lake on Route 30 and then tour up to Blue Mountain Lake on Route 28 is beyond compare.

Beaver Brook Bog is a birding area located off Uncas Road, near the village of Raquette Lake. The trail is on the right when leaving the village. 
Limekiln Lake Road

The Old Dam Nature Trail loop, located near Limekiln Lake campsite #87 on the back side of the leach field, is an easy 1.6 mile hike.
There's interesting scenery on all the hiking trails at Limekiln Lake.
Moose River Plains Wild Forest

The easily accessible Lost Ponds are some of the most scenic bodies of water in the region. Great for hiking, mountain biking, and paddling, any activity you choose is going to memorable.

The trail to Lower Sargent Pond is marked with both snowmobile and hiking trail markers. It goes primarily through hardwood stands with occasional stands of softwoods.

Rondaxe Road

A developing mountain biking trail network that branches out from Old Forge can be found here! 
North Rondaxe Road

This trail starts on North Rondaxe Road as a beginner trail, then turns to intermediate past Stafford Pond. The trip connects Big Moose Lake and Lake Rondaxe. A 16.5-mile loop is possible using Rondaxe Road, Route 28, and Big Moose Road.
Moose River Plains Wild Forest

Located in the Moose River Plains Wild Forest off of Rock Dam Road, this access offers good, low-country hunting around the backside of Mount Tom. It's a narrow, little-used path, but it's worth the effort.

Hunt Club Road

Get out into some of the besting birding and cycling habitat in the Adirondacks. Getting there Turn right from Route 28 in Raquette Lake, drive 5.3 miles to the end of Sagamore Road, and turn right on Hunt Club Road.
This old road is a favorite day hike.

The Seventh Lake Mountain Community Connector encompasses 14.3 miles of intermediate and expert riding trail. It was built in 2013 as a snowmobile and mountain bike trail that can be accessed at four locations.

Moss Lake is a beautiful place for a picnic, a hike, a cross-country ski, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing! 
The wildlife viewing platform is a great way to experience Moss Lake.

The proximity of this hike to the community of Inlet makes this area very accessible to visitors and year-round residents alike. The best time to visit would be early spring or after some good rain, if you want to see the falls flowing steady.

This is a very mysterious cave that keeps everyone wondering if it was man-made or not. Check it out and decide for yourself. The cave itself is about 15 feet deep and 8 feet wide with a small window opening near the top.

Chain Lakes Road South allows access to a network of dirt roads and trails in parts of the Blue Mountain Wild Forest, Pine Lake Primitive Area, and Hudson Gorge Wilderness.

The old railroad track starts across the road from the Browns Tract beach access on Uncas Road.
Sagamore Road

Be aware that Sagamore Road can have heavy car traffic as people visit the historic Great Camp Sagamore. Potential traffic aside, the route offers a nice, hard packed gravel surface, which is great for a family to pedal.
North Point Road

The Sargent Ponds trails offer an excellent opportunity to bike through the woods on well marked, fairly level, paths. Separate trails lead to Upper and Lower Sargent ponds, with a connecting trail between them.
Seventh Lake Road

This trail is a nice, tight single track on fairly level terrain that goes past a couple of lean-tos. The trail runs right along Seventh Lake so there are multiple places to swim.
Route 28

Take in the beautiful history and scenery of this scenic route!
Rt. 10 winds through historic rural hamlets north of the NYS Thruway (Canajoharie, Exit 29) from Palatine Bridge to Ephrata to Caroga Lake.
South Shore Road

This is a wonderful trip in the fall, but also in the spring when all the trees bud out in gold and green. There are many scenic pull-offs for photo opportunities.
The drive on Rt. 30 from the Village of Indian Lake to Speculator is one of the most spectacular scenic tours in the Adirondacks. As you descend the western shore of Indian Lake, the surrounding mountains are reflected in the surface of the lake.

Established October of 2021, Experience an all new biking excursion in Long Lake. Enjoy 2km of winding bike and shared-use trails above the Mt. Sabattis recreation center, and pedal to the top for stellar views of the lake and mountain range!

The view from this pond could make anyone faint! Take the easy, rolling old roadbed by foot, bike, or snowmobile out to the spacious waterfront. 
Fishing from shore is a Mitchell Ponds preference.

This multi-use trail connects Inlet and Raquette Lake. The terrain is very wide, and under most normal conditions, dry.
A beautiful forest trail that combines the communities of Inlet and Raquette Lake.
Lake Lila Access Road

Lake Lila is located in the William C. Whitney Wilderness Area in Hamilton County. It is a remote, motor-less lake with 24 first-come, first-served camping sites along its shores.

Fern Park is a free, four-season, town of Inlet recreation park located on Loomis Road, just off of South Shore Road. Visitors can hike, bike, ski, and snowshoe! There is even ice skating in winter and weddings in summer.
This four season park has so many recreational options.

The TOBIE trail connects Thendara (T), Old Forge (O), Big Moose (B), Inlet (I), and Eagle Bay (E). It spans 16 miles of paved and unpaved paths, including snowmobile trails. It is primarily used by hikers and bikers.

Otter Brook Road

This is a great place for the whole family with easy, rolling terrain. The trail is an old road that ends at Beaver Lake in 2.1 miles. This is the site of the old Wilcox Hotel and sawmill.
