Long Lake
The first structure on Owls Head was a wooden tower erected by the Commission Corps in September of 1922. In 1919 it was replaced witha 35' standard Steel Aermotor LS40 tower. With the event of aerialdetection, this tower was closed at the end of the 1970 season.
Status: Restored and open to the public, but no observer cabin.

Trail Description: The trail is approximately 3 mi. long, with an 1100 foot elevation gain. Elevation at the summit is 2,812 feet. The trail is relatively difficult & steep past the 2 mile mark. The summit provides scenic view of the Fishing Brook Range to the SE and the High Peaks in the distance to the north.
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult
Directions
Location: 4 miles SW of the Village of Long Lake. Take Rt 30 N from the village. Travel 3/10 mi. past the Long Lake bridge and make a left onto Endion Road. The Trail Head is on a sharp curve on the R side of the road, 1.6 miles from Rte 30.
