Eighth Lake State Campground

Enjoy extensive hiking and biking trails, or take to the water with DEC canoe rentals. In winter, this is a snowmobile area.

Getting there

The parking area is on NY 28, exactly 2.3 miles north from the Eighth Lake Campground and 2.3 miles south from the four corners in Raquette Lake. It has a small 'Canoe Carry' sign that cannot be seen from the road. The GPS coordinates are N43 47.796 W74 41.706. The trail is marked with canoe carry and snowmobile markers.

Turn left for a wide, comfortable, 0.4 mile trail to Dunning lean-to. Be sure to sign the trail register.

John Dillon Park

A fully accessible wilderness area located near Long Lake, it has picnic areas for day trips, space for overnights, and room to enjoy the wilderness.

Approximately 17 miles south of Tupper Lake you will find John Dillon Park. Operated by Paul Smith’s College, this park is one of the only parks of its kind in the Adirondacks. This unique facility was a dream of retired International Paper CEO and Paul Smith’s College Alumnus John Dillon. He envisioned a place where everyone could enjoy the Adirondack landscape - no matter who you are!

Cedar River Flow

This large, gorgeous lake makes for a great backcountry paddle. Quiet, with plenty of opportunity for spotting birds and other wildlife, this lake is perfect for an intermediate paddler.

Getting There

From the intersection of Route 28 and Cedar River Road in Indian Lake, follow Cedar River Road 12 miles. The flow has a rather large meadow parking area near the dam and car top boat access.

Excellent opportunities all along Cedar River Road and the dam at Cedar River Flow
