From the Hudson to Blue Mountain

Info

Part of this 48 mile-long route follows the rushing Hudson River northward. It is a feisty little river at this point, perfect for whitewater rafting and nothing like the broad, deepwater expanse found south of Albany.

Scenic drives

From Adirondack Northway I-87 Exit 23 in Warrensburg, follow Rt. 9 north to Rt. 28. It will pass through the picturesque villages of Wevertown, North Creek, and North River and move into higher elevations, passing through the deep woods as it continues into the Village of Indian Lake, a base for rafting outfitters.

From Indian Lake, continue northwest on Rt. 30 to Blue Mountain Lake. A visit here must include a stop at the Adirondack Experience, known as the Smithsonian of the Adirondacks. A favorite attraction at the museum is the luxurious private rail car that the Vanderbilts used to travel to their various homes, including Great Camp Sagamore in Raquette Lake on Rt. 28.
