The Pathway is a 1-1/2 mile long boardwalk & path, which provides a unique opportunity by making wetlands, transitional forest, and upland timber areas accessible to all fitness levels. There are also several educational opportunities identifying the unusual plants that make the wetlands their home.

This nature trail with 850 yards of boardwalk is fully wheelchair accessible. The path traverses a variety of habitats and three types of wetlands along a flat-water section of the Sacandaga River. Public rest rooms are available, as well as a picnic area with grills and a view of the river.

Getting there

It is on Route 30 just before entering Speculator from the south, opposite the shores of Lake Pleasant.

Nature walk

This handicapped-accessible pathway consists of boardwalks and trails, starting at the ball field and winding through an Adirondack wetland. Additionally, there is a picnic area with grills and a view of the river. Rest areas are located at the Pavilion and the Fire Hall next door to the entrance.

Birding

Look for American Bitterns and Great Blue Herons along the eastern side of the path following the river, as well as Black Ducks and Mallards. Along the path, you’ll also find a variety of woodland warblers, several species of woodpeckers including Pileated.

Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing

This mellow trail is perfect for a family, beginner, or relaxing outing!
