Limekiln Lake State Campground

Limekiln Lake Campground is run by the NYSDEC.

Getting there

From downtown Inlet travel 0.75 miles northeast on Route 28 and turn right on Limekiln Lake Road. Drive 2 miles to the campground entrance on the right.

Camping

The campground has 3 miles of paved roadway that is great for road biking in the spring, summer, and fall. In the winter the town of Inlet grooms a 3 mile loop for cross-country skiing. These are double and single-track trails that connect to Fern Park. Be aware that there may be a few wet sections that have to be walked.

Nicks Lake Campground

Camping

Nicks Lake Campground is a state DEC Campground with over 100 campsites available for reservation. In winter, it is open for snowmobiling. Families can enjoy flushing toilets, showers, a playground, recycling areas, hiking trails, and more! The namesake lake has great bass fishing and loons are regularly seen here. Hiking and biking trails offer a great mix of intermediately difficult, family-oriented fun.

Hiking

Distance: The one-way distance to Remsen Falls is 3.5 miles. 

Beaver Lake

This is a great place for the whole family with easy, rolling terrain. The trail is an old road that ends at Beaver Lake in 2.25 miles. This is the site of the old Wilcox Hotel and sawmill. Both are long gone, but this is still an easy walk on a wide road with open glens around the lake.

Eighth Lake State Campground

Enjoy extensive hiking and biking trails, or take to the water with DEC canoe rentals. In winter, this is a snowmobile area.

Getting there

The parking area is on NY 28, exactly 2.3 miles north from the Eighth Lake Campground and 2.3 miles south from the four corners in Raquette Lake. It has a small 'Canoe Carry' sign that cannot be seen from the road. The GPS coordinates are N43 47.796 W74 41.706. The trail is marked with canoe carry and snowmobile markers.

Turn left for a wide, comfortable, 0.4 mile trail to Dunning lean-to. Be sure to sign the trail register.

John Dillon Park

A fully accessible wilderness area located near Long Lake, it has picnic areas for day trips, space for overnights, and room to enjoy the wilderness.

Approximately 17 miles south of Tupper Lake you will find John Dillon Park. Operated by Paul Smith’s College, this park is one of the only parks of its kind in the Adirondacks. This unique facility was a dream of retired International Paper CEO and Paul Smith’s College Alumnus John Dillon. He envisioned a place where everyone could enjoy the Adirondack landscape - no matter who you are!

Cedar River Flow

This large, gorgeous lake makes for a great backcountry paddle. Quiet, with plenty of opportunity for spotting birds and other wildlife, this lake is perfect for an intermediate paddler.

Getting There

From the intersection of Route 28 and Cedar River Road in Indian Lake, follow Cedar River Road 12 miles. The flow has a rather large meadow parking area near the dam and car top boat access. 

Fishing

Excellent opportunities all along Cedar River Road and the dam at Cedar River Flow
