Adirondacks late summer events

August is a busy time of the season as the summer winds down. There are events, activities and recreational opportunities that are second to none in the Adirondacks.

MUSIC IN THE MOUNTAINS

Catch a ride aboard water taxi from the Raquette Lake dock/village green to St. Williams on Long Point each Thursday evening at 5:50 pm for the St. Williams on Long Point summer concert series. The water taxi leaves promptly at 5:50pm and returns at 8:30pm. The concerts start at 7pm and include a variety of groups sure to delight anyone in your family!
The series concludes on August 28 until the 2015 season. Reservations on the water taxi are mandatory, so don't forget to call 315-354-4265 to reserve your seat.

RONDEAU FEST

In Long Lake, join the north country's premier music festival, the Rondeau Fest that takes place at the Mt Sabattis Pavilion, located across from the post office. This event takes place RAIN or SHINE from 4pm to 10pm and will include the music of Alex Smith, Dogtown Cadillac, Terry Chaiken and The Sons of Octomom! Tickets are only $10, and kids 18 and under are FREE (you're on vacation!). Food will be available for purchase, and dancing and fun are encouraged though out the night!

HISTORY COMES ALIVE!

Speculator - Civil War Re-enactment at the Speculator Ball Field -- Walk back through time and relive life during the Civil War period of time (1862-1865). Watch history come alive! A live full scale battle begins on the field at high noon, and includes canon and gun fire as the soldiers re-enact a typical skirmish during the civil war. Or, watch as a surgeon performs his duties patching up the sick and injured throughout the day. Walk the encampment, talk with the soldiers and their families as they cook meals, relax and immerse yourself in a period of history like none other! End the evening with a one canon salute as the soldiers turn in for the night.

FLY-IN BREAKAST

Come and watch up to 50 airplanes land at the Lion's Club Fly-In breakfast in Piseco and support a great cause. The "Fly-In" has been a favorite 25+ years in a row, and is weather dependent for those flying, but most visitors drive by car. Eat a HUGE Adirondack breakfast alongside the runway as you watch planes take off and land. Up to 650 guests can't be wrong at this one-of-a-kind venue to eat a hearty breakfast! Best of all, it's only $7/per person!

FARMERS MARKETS

Thursdays have become our favorite weekday since the Speculator Farmers and Crafters Market started up in June. Every Thursday from 2pm – 5pm up to two dozen vendors display their best locally grown produce, food products, cool jewelry and crafts at the Speculator pavilion. Or, head up to Long Lake for the Long Lake Market that runs every Thursday from 10am to 2:00pm, until August 28th. Featured items include crafted furniture, baked items; quilts, jewelry, knitted items, fresh fruit & vegetables, music and many other items. The market is located at the Mt. Sabattis parking lot, across from the post office.
As you travel between remote villages and towns, visit any of the various unique shops and gift stores located along you way for local crafts, gifts and books unique to our area.

TWIGS CRAFT FAIR

Shop until you drop at the area's largest and longest running craft fair (33 years!), THE TWIGS CRAFT FAIR in Speculator on August 14th, from 9am-4pm. With over 150 vendors in attendance, you are sure to find that item you've been looking for, or load up on unique gifts for your Christmas shopping list. The Craft Fair takes place at the Speculator ball field and pavilion, just south of the 4 corners in Speculator, located across from the village beach from 10am until 4pm. Food is available for sale and if the weather permits, the beach is just across the road where you can take a cool dip! Call 518-548-5790 for more information.
