Swimming Holes

Summer is upon us, and do you know the best way to cool down? Head to a lake! Throw a blanket, some towels, and a snack in the car and go to the beach to take a swim. There are plenty of local swimming holes you can  walk to, but I think we have some of the most beautiful beaches in the Adirondacks, with the most breathtaking views and cool attractions.

Take a look at some of our public beaches and the unique amenities that come along with them.

Inlet Public Beach

Take a dip in the refreshing waters of Fourth Lake. At Arrowhead Park, the sandy Inlet Public Beach is perfect for enjoying the sun, and as a bonus there's free Wifi there. With so many places within walking distance — like restaurants, shops, bathrooms, and a playground for kids — it's easy to spend the day here. The Inlet tourism information center is located in the same area, so stop in to find more information about the area.

Blue Mountain Lake Public Beach

Blue Mountain Lake Public Beach may be one of the most beautiful beaches in the Adirondacks, so put it on your "must-do" list. The views alone are some of the best in the area, and since it's one of the highest elevation beaches in the Adirondacks, it's also a great spot to catch a beautiful sunset.

Wells Public Beach

Swimming in Lake Algonquin at Wells Public Beach is the perfect way to cool off. There is a great pavilion to have a picnic or to keep your things in while enjoying the sandy beach. Along with bathrooms and other great amenities, Wells Public Beach also has a nice swimming dock with a diving board that is sure to be a hit with the kids!

Speculator Public Beach

Speculator Public Beach provides more than just a swimming adventure for the family — across the street is the Sacandaga River Nature Trails. This is a great option if the kids get sick of the beach and want to do something else. The trails form a network of loops that feature historic information along the way. They are a great place to take the kids hiking, and they provide some great spots for a picnic.

Town of Indian Lake Public Beach

This sandy location provides a quiet spot to relax and unwind. Because the Town of Indian Lake Public Beach is located outside of Indian Lake, there is no noise from traffic or other commotion. Being tucked away makes you think your are at your own private beach. The beach also has a volleyball court, swings, and a covered pavilion.

Lake Eaton

This public beach is tucked away inside the Lake Eaton Public Campground, but is available for day use if you aren't camping there. If I'm not able to camp, I like to go to beaches at campgrounds to see all of the campers and catch the smell of a campfire. This beach is also tucked away, so you don't have the background noise of traffic.

Long Lake Public Beach

Long Lake Public Beach has a great location on Long Lake and is within walking distance to food, hotels, and canoe, kayak, and SUP rentals. Stop across the street at Raquette River Outiftters and take a boat out for a paddle to further discover the lake. This beach is always bustling with different water activities. They are known for the "big dock" with a rope swing, trampoline, and slide. One cool feature about Long Lake Beach is you can see sea planes taking off and landing from Helms Aero Service on a nice day. It's located directly next to the beach and provides added fun!

Come visit

Some people will visit the area and not know that we have these great public beaches. We also have some great swimming holes that are tucked away, just ask a local! I encourage you to check out our public beaches, but before you do, look into our great lodging and dining options and make a weekend out of it.
